Finasteride is an anti androgen drug marketed in various brand names by different drug manufactures. The drug acts on the 5-alpha reductase, the enzyme responsible for the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone. This drug is used in small doses in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia, popularly referred as BPH. The medicine is also found to be effective in high doses for prostate cancer. Further Finasteride in combination with the doxazosin is also treating the symptomatic progression in benign proststic hyperplasia.

Dutasteride is a recently approved drug by the FDA that was developed by the Glaxo smithkline laboratories. It is the latest and claimed to be the most effective antiandrogen drug that helps suppress the conversion of the testosterone into dehydrotestosterone. It is reported to inhibit both isoforms of the 5-alpha reductase and as such more effective than other antiantrogen like Finasteride.

Fluridil, Spironolactone and Cyproterone which show a binding to the Androgen Receptor as a common activity. Anyhow they differ very much in their use and target groups (male / female)

DHT binding to the Androgen Receptor of hair follicles is the type of treatment used for male pattern of hair loss. This includes the prevention of DHT getting created and forms it getting bound to the receptor.

Fluridil

An alternative form of treatment is Fluridil, which blocks the activity of Androgen Receptor itself. The Czech Republic has approved Fluridil, and is now being used for cosmetic uses; while its marketing approval to numerous other countries has been kept pending.

Fluridil is basically a topical ant androgen that suppresses the human androgen receptor. It is highly hydrophobic, hydrolytically degradable nonresorbable. When tried on animals, it has been proven that fluridil shows high local and general tolerance. So to find out the safety and the efficiency of fluridil in male androgentic alopecia, several tests were conducted.

In these tests, 20 men were tested for 21 days with forearm patches of 2, 4 and 6% of fluridil, isopropanol and Vaseline. 43 men with androgentic alopecia, Norwood grade II-Va, 2% fluridil was measured in a placebo-controlled, double blind stuffy after 3 months with phototrichograms, hematology and blood chemistry. The results showed that neither fluridil nor isopropanol had any sensitization or irritation potential, unlike Vaseline. All AGA subjects showed equal anagen/telogen counts. Even after 3 months, the anagen percentage did not change in the placebo subjects; but showed an increase in fluridil subjects. There was a further increase after 9 months.

The first placebo subjects registered an increase in the anagen percentage after 6 months of treatment. Moreover, libido, hematology, sexual functions and blood chemistry values were the same throughout the tests. However at 3 months, during spring, serum testotestorne increased in both the placebo and fluridil groups. There was no fluridil or its decomposition product, BP-34, in the serum after 3 or 90 days.

With all these tests, one can come to the conclusion that topical fluridil is nonirritating, nonresorbable, no sensitizing, anagen promoting and has no systemic activity with daily use in most AGA males.

The treatment of Alopecia areata is different from other types of hair loss. Alopecia areata is the result of an attack of one’s own immune system on the hair follicles that arrest the hair growth. The hair follicles however do not usually lose its capacity to produce the hair. Normally the hair may re appear within a year though there are chances of repeated hair loss and recurrence of the symptoms.

Baldness is curable. Whether it is genetic or caused by different environmental factors it can be cured. A lot of scientists from around the world are in search for cure regarding this ailment. In the future, expect baldness treatments in as easy as you can possibly imagine

In the past two decades, there is little to no concrete progress recorded in terms of research, development and efficient clinical testing of new substances that have DHT-lowering properties. Since 2010 however, there is new research on the field of endocrinologic effects of various substances on DHT and its precursor, as well as the impact of these compounds on our daily bodily functions. We present some technical information about Kératene alphactive Retard, a new product recently announced in various international scientific forums, for its DHT-lowering properties. There are recent in vivo tests performed on this product and here are some interesting conclusions that this product could be useful in relation to hair loss.
